We’re going to be seeing a lot more of GREASE star, Janel Parrish!
Disney-owned cable channel, Freeform, has ordered a pilot for Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, a new spinoff series that will co-star Janel and fellow Pretty Little Liars cast member, Sasha Pieterse. The duo will reprise their roles from the hit series, which ended this past June.
Pieterse returns in the role of ‘Alison DiLaurentis’, the former queen bee whose mysterious disappearance rocks the small town of Rosewood. Parrish is ‘Mona Vanderwaal’, unmasked as the mysterious tormentor “A” at the end of the show’s second season.
Janel is currently starring as ‘Sandy’ in the Toronto production of GREASE, which opens November 1 at The Elgin Winter Garden Theatre Centre.
“I’m so happy to be returning as Mona in a Pretty Little Liars spin off!” says Janel. “Meantime, it’s so fun to be able to play ‘Sandy’, a role so different from Mona during my time off.”
According to a press release issued by Freefrom, the new spin-off will be set in a town called Beacon Heights, where everything only “seems perfect”.
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is being adapted by Pretty Little Liars’ showrunner, I. Marlene King. Her previous tease that the writers would “find a way to bring these characters and this world back” has proven to be true — and we can’t wait.
The question we’ve been left with is how will the show’s writers will bring Alison and Mona back after their endings on Pretty Little Liars? Will Mona return from France? What will happen to Alison’s family?
GREASE runs November 1 through December 10 at The Elgin Winter Garden Theatre Centre.
